Applied Food Animal Systems Research and Innovation Training Program

Heritage Vet Partners is a growing community of progressive veterinarians and scientists focused on serving food animal production systems. As such, we are collaborating with the Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (CORE) group to seek highly motivated individuals to apply for an innovative program designed to develop the hands‐on leadership and scientific skills that enable top‐quality research and science‐based management decisions. The successful candidate would spend the majority of their time working directly on commercial beef and/or dairy calf production systems research. Supervision and mentoring will be provided by the Vice President of Clinical Operations for Heritage Vet Partners as well as faculty leadership within Kansas State University’s Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology. In addition, the candidate will concurrently pursue a PhD degree at Kansas State University emphasizing applied production systems research that enables comprehensive health and business decisions. The graduate program will provide formal training in research design and implementation, data analysis, interpretation and visualization, epidemiology, economics, and animal health technologies. Preference will be given to a candidate with previous research and experience in production systems.

The successful applicant will have, or will develop, experience and expertise in review of scientific information, development of appropriate research protocols, monitoring and execution of research protocols, data capture and monitoring, records review and data management, and data analysis, interpretation and presentation of health and production outcomes. The ideal candidate will be detailed oriented and meticulous, analytical, dependable, self‐motivated, and with previous experience in production systems. Excellent communication skills, and a transparent and collaborative philosophy will be essential. On completion of the program, the candidate will have developed the high‐level science‐based skills required to have an immediate impact in the industry.

Expectations, opportunities, salary and support will significantly exceed those of typical graduate programs. The recruitment and interview process will be more intensive as the successful candidate is expected to become a member of Heritage Vet Partners with compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. Furthermore, a commitment to service following completion of the program will be encouraged. Enquiries to the program’s leadership team can be directed to the email below. To apply, please submit a cover letter (detailing experiences, abilities and aspirations), current CV, and contact information for three professional references to Ashley Thackrah <cricket1@vet.k-state.edu>. Initial review of applications will begin June 1, 2025, and will continue until an applicant is successfully hired.
