Greetings from the Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (CORE). On behalf of our team, it is a pleasure to share some CORE news again. As we strive to provide stakeholders with impactful information based on sound science and data, we focus this newsletter on activities this past summer and fall where we have shared our research findings and expertise locally, nationally, and internationally. 2024 BRDS AND AVC SUMMER MEETING

CORE co-sponsored the Bovine Respiratory Disease Symposium (BRDS) this August in Denver, CO. CORE students and faculty attended and presented at the BRDS and Academy of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) summer meeting.

MOSQUITO COLLECTION

This summer and fall, several CORE members traveled to swine farms in Southern Iowa to collect mosquitoes to investigate the abundance and species diversity of competent mosquito disease vectors in and around swine facilities.

2024 USAHA AND AAVLD ANNUAL MEETING

CORE students presented at the 2024 United States Animal Health Association (USAHA) and American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee this October.

OTHER NOTABLE CORE MEMBER ACTIVITIES

  • Dr. Renter provided a keynote presentation about BRD in the context of the sustainability domains at the BRDS in August.
  • In October, CORE met with the CORE Advisory Council to discuss future goals for the center.
  • Dr. Sanderson provided a keynote presentation, “Cross Border Infectious Disease Threats,” at the Forum on Systematic Mapping of Beef Production Risks in October.
  • Lucas Horton, PhD student, successfully defended his dissertation this November.
  • Taylor McAtee, PhD student, presented at the 17th International Symposium on Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics in Sydney, Australia, this November.
  • Dr. Cernicchiaro contributed as an expert in revising the Japanese encephalitis chapter of the World Organization for Animal Health Terrestrial Code in Paris, France, this November.
  • Dr. Cernicchiaro led the Symposium on Food Safety during the Pan American Congress on Veterinary Sciences, held this December, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
  • Drs. Dixon and Cernicchiaro supported numerous research projects by providing statistical analysis for clinicians across a network of veterinary clinics in North America, as well as for College of Veterinary Medicine faculty, staff, and students at KSU.
