Dr. J. Trent Fox - DVM 2010
2021 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
Dr. J. Trent Fox, Hays, Kansas, was the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award for his notable achievements since graduating from Kansas State University. The award was presented by the K-State College of Veterinary Medicine and the K‑State Veterinary Medical Alumni Association during the Awards Brunch at the Reunion Weekend held Sept. 25, 2021.
Dr. Fox received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 2010. He also earned a Ph.D. in pathobiology, ruminant microbiology and epidemiology in 2007, also at K-State. Prior to that, he earned a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition from Texas A&M University in 2004. He completed a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences at K-State in 2002.
Dr. Fox was born in Hutchinson and grew up in St. John, Kansas. He is currently a feedlot consultant with his own practice, Veterinary Research and Consulting Services, in Hays. He was a staff veterinarian from 2010 to 2015 at JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding in Greeley, Colorado.
“It is truly an honor to be selected from the large pool of great veterinarians who received training at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine,” Dr. Fox said.
“We are proud of Dr. Fox’s service to the food animal industry in Kansas,” said Dr. Bonnie Rush, dean of the veterinary college. “He embodies our mission of meeting the needs of livestock producers in a sustainable practice environment. With his expertise and commitment, Dr. Fox will influence the future of food animal practice and livestock production throughout his career.”
Dr. Fox is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas Livestock Association, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Academy of Veterinary Consultants National Cattlemen's Beef Association and the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. He was on the board of directors with the Academy of Veterinary Consultants from 2015 to 2019. During veterinary school, he was the recipient of numerous scholarship awards including the AABP James A. Jarrett Award for Young Leaders, NCBA Young Cattlemen’s Conference and the AVC Doug Armstrong Scholarship.
Dr. Fox and his wife, Miranda, have four children: Kyzer, Izaac, Zerelda and Brazos.
