Dr. Megan Figger, Sylvia, Kansas, is a recipient of a 2026 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award for her notable achievements since graduating from Kansas State University. The award is presented by the K-State College of Veterinary Medicine during the Alumni Awards Luncheon at the 88th Annual Conference for Veterinarians held May 31.

Dr. Figger is vice president of medical projects and the travel team for the national company, VEG ER for Pets, where she focuses on supporting veterinarians and advancing patient care across hospitals. She attended the University of Akron (Ohio) where she earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Dr. Figger was then accepted at Kansas State University where she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2016.

“I am truly honored to receive this recognition!” Dr. Figger said. “My time at K-State gave me the foundation, confidence and community that shaped who I am as a veterinarian and leader, and VEG has given me the opportunity to flourish in that work. This award is especially meaningful because it reflects the support of so many mentors, colleagues and family members who have encouraged me along the way.”

“We are pleased to recognize Dr. Figger with this award for her accomplishments at a relatively early stage in her career,” said Interim Dean Dr. Elizabeth Davis. “She is filling an important and unique role in the profession and has quickly elevated to a leadership position. We look forward to seeing her continue to succeed as her career advances.”

Dr. Figger began her career in small animal general practice in Stockton and Hutchinson, Kansas. After five years in general practice, she transitioned into emergency medicine with VEG ER for Pets, where she worked as a full-time traveling ER veterinarian before stepping into leadership as medical director of the travel team.

Dr. Figger is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.

Outside of work, Dr. Figger enjoys traveling, getting lost in a good book, and spending time with her son and her husband, Dr. Bruce Figger, also a K-State veterinary graduate of 2016 who operates South Wind Animal Health in Sylvia, Kansas.
