Dr. Loyce D. Jernigan
1986 & 1999 E.R. Frank Award
Dr. Loyce D. Jernigan, Council Grove, Kansas, was the recipient of the E. R. Frank Award for his positive and significant contribution to veterinary medicine and K-State. Dr. Jernigan received his DVM from K-State in 1945. In the mid-1960's he was a faculty member of the department of surgery and medicine (now clinical sciences), where he helped many students gain confidence in their abilities. He accomplished this, in part, by taking senior students with him on rotation to his practice in Council Grove. In this way they were provided with hands on experience in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Jernigan has been a civic leader in various activities in and around Council Grove and is a past recipient of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association practitioner of the year award. He served as secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners for many years. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association. He continues to be involved in general veterinary medicine practice in Council Grove.
