Library Noise Policies
The Veterinary Medical Library is, first and foremost, a place for study. We recognize that every student studies differently, so we provide a variety of environments to meet individual needs, including collaborative, private, and quiet spaces.
While we strive to accommodate all patrons, the VML does not routinely monitor noise levels in the following areas: the Main Library Space, Open Collaborative Study Rooms, Emeritus & Alumni Lounge, Rooms 419, 420, 421, and the Library Conference Room. Pink signs throughout the library remind patrons that this is a shared study environment and to be mindful of noise levels. Library staff take all noise complaints seriously and investigate each one; however, we will not intervene if the sound level in these areas is deemed reasonable. We ask all patrons to self-monitor and remain considerate of others nearby.
Noise complaints regarding the Quiet Room and Stacks are treated with the utmost seriousness. These areas are designated for completely silent study. A primary library staff member will investigate any reported disturbance and take appropriate action. Patrons who do not adhere to the noise policy may be asked to lower their voices and sound levels or relocate to another area of the library better suited for noise, conversation, or group work.
