The Veterinary Medical Library Intern position is a paid, flexible opportunity for university students. It offers a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in academic and medical librarianship within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Working closely with the Library Director and Collections Specialist, the intern will assist with research support, collection curation and the integration of advanced tools, including library management systems and AI technologies. This role includes conducting research for faculty, students, and external entities, navigating medical databases, creating library documentation and participating in professional development activities. Emphasizing creative problem-solving, the intern will collaborate on innovative ideas to enhance library operations and user experiences while gaining a comprehensive understanding of academic and medical library environments. This position is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in librarianship, medical research or information sciences.

Requirements for Internship Position:
Must be enrolled full-time at either Kansas State University or another university within driving distance to Manhattan, Kansas.
Apply for our Intern Position:
This student is responsible for mastering library circulation systems, including Alma and Search It/Primo, and understanding collections management through expertise in the Library of Congress system, shelving specifications, and bibliographic records. They must excel in database searching with tools like PubMed and CABI Abstracts, field reference questions, and assist students, faculty, staff, and non-university patrons. Daily tasks include locating materials, facilitating Interlibrary Loan and resource requests, circulating materials, staffing the library desk, managing phone and email communications, and ensuring smooth operations at the Veterinary Medical Library. This position is also active on Handshake via the K-State's website.
Requirements for Position:
- Must be enrolled full-time at Kansas State University.
- Cannot be a College of Veterinary Science student.
- Pre-veterinary students are encouraged to apply.

The Veterinary Medical Library is committed to providing employment opportunities for students across campus, including those enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Due to confidentiality statutes, veterinary students are not permitted to work behind the service desk; however, we offer an alternative role designed specifically for actively enrolled veterinary students.
Stacks Assistant Position
Stacks Assistants typically work 6–8 hours per week, primarily between 7:00–8:00 a.m., with occasional additional hours depending on library needs and student availability. Responsibilities include shelving materials, organizing and tidying library spaces, preparing the coffee and tea bar, and completing other routine opening tasks that support daily library operations. The starting wage is $9.00 per hour.
