Research
Spatially-enabled computational epidemiology of infectious diseases and applications of geospatial approaches for enhancing animal/public health are my research interests. I extensively use Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote-sensing concepts in my research alongside geo-statistical and stochastic simulation methods. Our current and prior research in this area has identified important spatio-temporal patterns and spatial determinants for vector/water-borne zoonotic diseases from climatic, environmental, and socio-economic themes. Increasingly, my research strives to identify consistencies in complex meteorological (climate) variable associations with vector-borne diseases through the utilization of high resolution ground-based and NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) datasets.
Teaching
I teach the following courses: DMP 725 - GIS (Geographic Information System) Applications in Animal and Public Health (2 credit hours), and a concurrent laboratory course DMP 726 - GIS (Geographic Information System) Applications in Animal and Public Health – Lab (1).
Service
Diagnostic laboratories nation-wide are beginning to employ cutting-edge information technology capabilities to enhance client-service, syndromic surveillance, and research and outreach. I oversee various information technology project development and adaptations at KSVDL.
