- Dr. Eduarda Bortoluzzi is an Assistant Professor of Animal Welfare at the Department of Anatomy and Physiology at Kansas State University. She holds a veterinary medicine degree from the Federal University of Pampa, Brazil. She completed her master’s and Ph.D. degrees at the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry at Kansas State University. Her interests include animal behavior and the welfare of domestic species, including the development of new welfare metrics using artificial intelligence and machine learning, and mitigation of pain and distress during management procedures in cattle.

- Dr. Hector is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Pain Management at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She graduated from veterinary school at Oregon State University and worked in equine ambulatory and referral practice in British Columbia prior to completing her specialty training at Colorado State University. Although she works on all animals, her species of expertise is the horse. She is a lifelong horse person and combines the practice of anesthesia and analgesia with a special focus on equine behavior, cooperative care training, and low stress/pain veterinary practice.

Dr. Petty is currently a member of the World Small Animal Association Global Pain Council. He is the past president of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. A frequent speaker and consultant; he has published articles in veterinary journals and serves in an advisory capacity to several pharmaceutical companies on topics of pain management. He has taught primary care veterinarians on behalf of Pfizer Animal Health/Zoetis as an ELITE speaker: he has traveled to clinics around the country and the world to teach anesthesia and analgesia, and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain. His book, Dr. Petty’s Pain Relief for Dogs was published in 2016 by WW Norton. He is a frequent contributor to veterinary journals.

- Dr. Tovar graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She pursued further training at Washington State University and Colorado State University. Dr. Tovar is a diplomate for the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in the avian practice. She recently joined Kansas State University and is a new faculty for the Zoo, Exotic, Wildlife, and Avian Medicine and Surgery service.
