Hill’s Pet Nutrition has announced a $1 million investment in the CVM for an endowed small animal clinical nutrition professorship, which is designed to enhance the educational experience of veterinary students and contribute to the advancement of veterinary nutritional science.

Pair of parasitology events

The K-State parasitology group recently attended the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists meeting in Atlanta. Dr. Kamilyah Miller, Dr. Cameron Sutherland, Dr. Jeba Jesudoss Chelladurai, Theresa Quintana, and Grace Schieferecke all presented their research on a wide variety of topics from tapeworms to fleas to drug resistance to heartworm diagnostics. Theresa Quintana was also selected for the AAVP-CAPC Zoonotic Disease award, recognizing her outstanding work in the field of zoonotic parasites. She delivered a keynote talk on her work looking at the transcriptional changes of larval Toxacara canis when exposed to macrocyclic lactones.

Boehringer-Ingelheim hosted the K-State Parasitology and Pharmacology teams at their facility in St. Joseph, Missouri. The team was able to tour the research/development laboratories, production, manufacturing and distribution areas.
"This was a great learning experience for students to see what a truly massive scale-up of animal pharmaceutical production looks like," Dr. Brian Herrin said. "We also got to don the latest fashion in PPE. The site visit was coordinated by Theresa Quintana, who was finishing a summer fellowship in the regulatory affairs department of BI."

Veterinary Business Management Association students win innovative award
Second-year students Ilya Verekhman, VBMA president, and Weston Ahles, VBMA secretary, show the "Most Innovative Event Award" they received at the in competition national meeting in Orlando this past January. Ilya says this was part of a competition with all the other veterinary colleges/schools.
"Our chapter created 'Business Insight Tours,' which allowed members to tour local veterinary practices to get an in-depth look at how to run a private practice and everything that is needed to do so," Ilya aid. "We are incredibly fortunate to have local veterinary business owners offer their one-of-a-kind advice to veterinary students."
Equine Field Service gets into Dodge City Round-up Rodeo

Everybody Counts 2024
This August kicked off with a return trip to the "Everybody Counts Manhattan" community event where a group of about 30 veterinary students, nurses and veterinarians performed physical examinations, administered vaccines and provided preventative care. Products were donated by pharmaceutical and nutrition/pet food corporations. See a special video on the CVM YouTube channel that shows our folks in action. More happenings
The exotics rotation had a fun day at the Riley County Fair on July 25, evaluating rabbits and birds. They completed more than 150 exams and the students learned about pullorum testing! Those participating included: Drs. Hannah Kunzman, Haley Straub, Jennifer Doles, Savannah Dunn and Gretel Tovar, as well as fourth-year students Katherine Melendez-Santiago, Skylar Gray, Sixto Mahecha-Diago, Audrey Kastner and veterinary nurse intern Letha Schults.
Congrats to Dr. Todd Gunderson on passing the American College of Veterinary Preventative Medicine (ACVPM) board certification and Dr. Flavia Vaduva for successfully passing board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Nutrition Specialty.
