College of Veterinary Medicine appoints Dr. Elizabeth Davis as executive associate dean The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University has announced the appointment of Dr. Elizabeth Davis as the executive associate dean. Dr. Davis previously served as associate dean of clinical programs since 2022. She will relinquish her role as department head of clinical sciences and will maintain responsibilities as the director of the Veterinary Health Center. |

K-State researchers developing index to measure cattle pain, stress using consumption rate
Dr. Hans Coetzee, currently the interim vice president of research at Kansas State University, is a well-established researcher in the fields of pain relief and animal welfare. He and Dr. Eduarda Bortoluzzi, assistant professor of animal welfare, are leading a project titled, “Validation of a novel Bovine Rate of Consumption Index to assess pain and thermal stress in cattle.” |

Distinguished professors Dodds, Coetzee receive Higuchi-KU research awards Two distinguished Kansas State University researchers, Walter Dodds and Dr. Hans Coetzee, have been selected as recipients of the prestigious Higuchi-KU Endowment Research Achievement Awards. The awards are the state higher education system’s most prestigious recognition for scholarly excellence. |

Veterinary college recognizes talented trio with annual teaching awards Three faculty members have been recognized for preclinical teaching excellence. Dr. Lisa Pohlman, Dr. Clay Hallman and Dr. Leslie Weaver were each named as the respective top teachers for the first, second and third years of instruction, as voted on by each respective class of students for their teaching efforts in the 2023-2024 school year. |

Department of Anatomy and Physiology presents Westfall fellowship to graduate student Mikaela Weeder Mikaela Weeder, a doctoral student in pharmacokinetics, was selected by A&P as the recipient of the Dr. Jane A. Westfall Graduate Fellowship for Women. Mikaela earned a bachelor's degree in animal science from K-State in 2021. As a graduate student, her research focuses on the optimization of analgesic drug regimens for goats with lameness. |

Dr. Dean Henricks - DVM 1969
Dr. Dean Henricks, Carmichael, California, has been selected by the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and its Veterinary Medical Alumni Association to receive a 2025 Alumni Recognition Award. The award is presented March 3 in conjunction with the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas in recognition of his career in veterinary medicine and for having served as an exemplary role model for future alumni in a professional and community setting. Emergency Services gets the spotlight on local TV news program
Congratulations to Dr. Brad White who was selected as a recipient of the 2024 Roots of Research Award! He is being honored for his excellence in research and exceptional scholarly contributions as a K-State faculty member. As a symbol of recognition and gratitude, a tree will be planted on campus in his name at a special ceremony in April. Drs. Kate KuKanich, Ellyn Mulcahy and Erin Petro published, “Companion animal veterinary personnel have occupational risk for tularemia and One Health role for tularemia prevention in Kansas,” in the February edition of JAVMA. Dr. Robert Larson was a pre-conference seminar speaker, on the topic of beef nutrition, at the American Association of Bovine Practitioners Recent Graduate Conference on Feb. 13 in Norman, Oklahoma. Kansas State University has been identified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s 




Annika Senn, a first-year student in the College of Veterinary Medicine from Newton, was awarded the David A. Schoneweis Scholarship during the American Association of Swine Veterinarians, or AASV, Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. She is the first first-year veterinary student to have ever been selected for this scholarship.
