A recent gathering featured a diverse group of Kansas State University veterinary graduates at a distant location. K-State's U.S.-China Joint DVM Program held its annual China Homecoming event in Hangzhou, China, on Aug. 10 and 11. The homecoming was organized by the U.S.-China Center for Animal Health, Chinese Veterinary Drug Association, Zhejiang A&F University and Zoetis.

Veterinary students receive scholarship awards at bovine conference
Three Kansas State University veterinary medicine students and one faculty member received awards at the recent annual conference of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, or AABP, in Columbus, Ohio. The conference took place from Sept. 12-14.

K-State to host collaborative Rabies Symposium for World Rabies Day 2024
In commemoration of World Rabies Day 2024, the College of Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and the Kansas State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, will host the 2024 Rabies Symposium Oct. 5. This event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in person at the Boehringer Ingelheim Auditorium and via Zoom.

Veterinary Research Scholars Program recognizes scholars and mentors
Summer veterinary student research projects took center stage on the first day of August for the presentation of posters and recognition of scholars and mentors. The 2024 session of the Veterinary Research Scholars Program, VRSP, accepted 25 students who collaborated with research mentors both inside and outside the College of Veterinary Medicine. The group also included visiting scholars from other veterinary colleges and countries.

As fireworks light up the sky and people gather for barbecues, this can cause anxiety and danger for pets across the country. Pet owners should start making plans now to keep pets safe and comfortable during the Fourth of July, said Susan Nelson, clinical professor at the Kansas State University Veterinary Health Center, a part of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

College of Veterinary Medicine appoints Dana Vanlandingham as interim associate dean of research
The College of Veterinary Medicine has appointed Dana Vanlandingham, professor in diagnostic medicine/pathobiology, to serve as interim associate dean for research and graduate programs. She is filling in for Hans Coetzee, who was recently appointed by Kansas State University to serve as the interim vice president for research.

K-State veterinarians perform record-breaking number of eye exams for Kansas service animals
A record-breaking number of Kansas service animals are now cleared for their vital work, thanks to the work of Kansas State University veterinarians. The ophthalmology team at K-State's Veterinary Health Center saw a record number of patients during the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists/Epicur Pharma National Service Animal Eye Exam event in May. This was the service’s 15th year participating in the national event, which provides complimentary eye exams for service and working animals each May.

College of Veterinary Medicine presents scholarships and awards during annual banquet
The Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine hosted its 2024 Senior Banquet May 7 at the K-State Student Union Grand Ballroom. The college presented $282,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors, with more than 75 awards presented, some to multiple recipients.

Mike Apley named interim head of anatomy and physiology
The College of Veterinary Medicine has appointed Mike Apley to serve as interim head of its department of anatomy and physiology. He takes over duties for Hans Coetzee, associate dean of research and graduate programs, who served as department head since 2016.

A large crowd attended the sixth annual staff appreciation/awards luncheon hosted April 16 by the College of Veterinary Medicine Staff Council. This council represents all unclassified and university support staff in the college. One of the main priorities of the Staff Council is to acknowledge staff members for their contributions to the college's mission.
