Dr. Larry Bramlage - DVM 1975

Dr. Larry Bramlage, Georgetown, Kentucky, was selected to receive a 2014 Alumni Recognition Award at the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Dec. 8, 2014.
Dr. Bramlage was born in Marysville, Kansas. He graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1975 and a master’s degree from the Ohio State University in 1978. After graduation he worked in academia at Ohio State and as a surgeon to the Sterlingbrook Equine Center in Pittstown, New Jersey. Since 1989, Dr. Bramlage has been a partner, co-owner and surgeon for the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He has been the on-call veterinarian for the AAEP at the Kentucky Derby and a television media consultant during the Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup. In 2001, Dr. Bramlage was recognized by K-State as an Alumni Fellow for the College of Veterinary Medicine.

“Dr. Bramlage has had an outstanding career in equine veterinary medicine, and continues to serve the industry and profession with great passion and energy,” said Dr. Ralph Richardson, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. “This spring, Dr. Bramlage shared his wisdom and experiences as the commencement speaker for our graduating class of 2014. He is a great role model for our profession, so we are very proud to present him with this award.”
In September, Dr. Bramlage was one of three veterinarians honored by the Thoroughbred Club of America at its 83rd testimonial dinner. In 2010, the American College of Veterinary Surgeons presented him with its Legends Award for contributions to equine orthopedic surgery. He received the Joe Palmer Award from the Turf Writer of America for service to Thoroughbred racing in 2007. He won a distinguished service award from AAEP in 2005 and a Special Award of Merit from the British Equine Veterinary Association in 2000.
Dr. Bramlage has been named in both Who's Who in Science and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He has been a consulting surgeon for Lloyds of London Insurance Company. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, and a past regent and president of American College of Veterinary Surgeons, a past member of the board of directors and president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Bramlage was recipient of a Gold Medal for Contributions to Thoroughbred Racing from the Jockey Club of America in 1994.
Dr. Bramlage is also a member of these professional organizations: American Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, Kentucky Veterinary Medicine Association, and American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
Dr. Bramlage and his wife, Marilyn, have a daughter, Joey, and a son, Matthew.
