Dr. Lynn Stucky

Dr. Lynn Stucky, Denton, Texas, was selected by the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine for its 2024 Alumni Recognition Award presented in conjunction with the annual convention of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) held in Austin, Texas, in June 21, 2024. The award is given to veterinarians whose careers have served as exemplary role models for future alumni in a professional and community setting.

A native of rural Kansas, Dr. Lynn Stucky was raised on a farm five miles south of McPherson and ten miles north of Mound Ridge with his five siblings. A proud graduate of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1979 followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1983. Shortly after graduating, Dr. Stucky moved to Texas to find a place to begin practicing veterinary medicine. In 1986, he bought into veterinary practices in both Denton and Sanger, and in 1997, he opened his own practice.

“Veterinary medicine has been so rewarding for me and my family,” Dr. Stucky said. “I have been blessed to own a multi veterinarian mixed animal practice alongside my precious wife (as office manager) for the last 30-plus years. We have the greatest profession with so many opportunities for new graduates. It is an honor to be recognized by the great K-State veterinary college. K-State graduates are well prepared and come out graduating with a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to be successful including a great work ethic. I’m a very proud WILDCAT.”

“Dr. Stucky has been a dedicated public servant as both a veterinarian and legislator,” said Hodes Family Dean Dr. Bonnie Rush. “He provided service to his local animal shelter and supported animal owners through emergency response to natural disasters. Just as important as caring for animals, Dr. Stucky cares for people and has demonstrated his commitment through his tireless of public service.”

With over 40 years as a veterinarian in Denton County, Lynn has cared for the animals of over 9,000 of his friends and neighbors. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a lifetime member of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, a former member of the Denton County Animal Advisory Board and the Bayer Animal Health International Advisory Board, and he is a long-time veterinary volunteer for PRCA rodeo events.

Dr. Stucky was president of the Denton County Veterinary Medical Association for six years. He received the Lifetime Honorary Board Member of the North Texas Fair and Rodeo for volunteering as the official PRCA Veterinarian for over 35years. Only two other individuals have received this award including Walt Garrison and the Honorable Myra Crownover.

He has previously served on the House Committees on Agriculture & Livestock, Land & Resource Management, and Appropriations, where he led on funding for education across Texas. He has previously served as a vice chair on the House Committee on Higher Education and was interim chairman of County Affairs in the 87th Texas Legislature. He is currently the vice chair of the House Committee on County Affairs and serves on the Article II appropriations subcommittee, which focuses on healthcare funding. He also is a member of the Committee on Resolutions.

Prior to his legislative service, Dr. Stucky served for 15 years on the Sanger Board of Trustees, including four terms as board president. He also is a graduate of Leadership Denton, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Sanger Chamber of Commerce, a long-time member of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, and since 2002 has served on the Board of Directors of the Kanakuk Institute, a graduate discipleship program for young men and women to intensively study scripture. In 2003 and 2007, he was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Sanger Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Stucky and his wife, Lori, a former Denton ISD teacher and coach, have been married for more than 30 years. They are the proud parents of three grown children: Evan (and wife, Courtney), Lyndi and Malori. In 2022, they became first-time grandparents to Beau.
