Dr. Melissa Upchurch is a 2010 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in a variety of small animal clinics before joining the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in January 2018.

She currently spends the majority of her time in Pet Health, teaching students primary care, and also assists in other courses throughout the curriculum. Her favorite areas of veterinary medicine include dermatology, parasitology and preventive care.

Dr. Christina Gentry is a member of the American College of Veterinary Dermatologists® and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Texas A&M University. She graduated with her DVM in 2012 from Texas A&M and completed her dermatology residency at Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado in 2016. She spent seven years in private dermatology practice in Denver, CO and Houston, TX prior to returning to Texas A&M in 2023. Her dermatology interests include: feline allergic skin disease, otitis, immune mediated skin disease and client education.

Dr. Celliers is a South African and European board-certified small animal internal medicine specialist and assistant professor at Kansas State University’s Veterinary Health Center. Together with expertise in solving complex medical challenges, Dr Celliers has a special interest in immunology and infectious diseases. After six years in private practice and nine years in academia, Dr Celliers relocated from South Africa to join the faculty of Kansas State University’s internal medicine department, bringing with her a global perspective to clinical and academic work. Her current research focuses on the acute phase protein response in cats with histoplasmosis. She is passionate about helping students to become resilient, well-rounded veterinarians that can think on their feet. In her spare time, she enjoys trail running, hiking and reading.

Dr. Devon Ueda is a small animal veterinarian dedicated to maximizing patient well-being through therapeutic nutrition—a tool she believes offers one of the most significant opportunities to transform patient health.

As a residency-trained clinician in nutrition from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Ueda developed clinical expertise in managing complex nutritional cases, holding a specialized interest in gastrointestinal disease, early renal insufficiency, and weight loss strategies.

Now serving as an Academic Affairs Manager at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, she combines her clinical expertise with a passion for education. Dr. Ueda is committed to empowering veterinary professionals—from students to seasoned practitioners—by sharing evidence-based nutritional insights that directly improve clinical outcomes. She firmly believes that therapeutic nutrition is one of the most powerful tools in patient care.
