Dr. Amanda Nascimento is a Brazilian-Canadian with a unique journey in veterinary medicine. She started her North American adventure in 2015 by moving to Canada for a Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. Before that, she earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2010 and completed a master's in veterinary sciences in 2012 in Brazil. All supported by scholarships.
Her academic path led to post-doctoral training in immunology at the University of Saskatchewan. She specialized in areas like experimental pathology and clinical pharmacology/toxicology (One Health), broadening her knowledge.
Later, she worked in Canada's private sector as the Head of Integrative Veterinary Medicine and a Researcher. There, she explored natural pet products and holistic diets, discovering a passion for nutrition.
Her career took a new turn when she joined Health Canada's Veterinary Drug Directorate as a Scientific Evaluator. She regulated drugs, vaccines, and natural products, collaborating with international organizations like the US-FDA and EMA. She also assessed risks for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, ensuring the safety of animals and people.
Today, driven by her love for nutrition, she is a clinical nutrition intern at Kansas State University. She uses her background to study veterinary nutrition and make a positive impact on animal health.
