Collaborative research in the Center of Outcomes Research and Epidemiology finds most dogs are vaccinated in accordance with veterinarians’ recommendations
According to newly published research, almost all owners — 94.7% — reported their dogs were vaccinated against various diseases as recommended by their veterinarians. Researchers with CORE along with the Dog Aging Project and the Virginia-Maryland CVM published these findings this summer in the American Journal of Veterinary Research. |

Dr. Ron Highland - DVM 1975 receives alumni recognition award in Kansas City
Dr. Ron Highland, Wamego, Kansas, was selected by the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine for its 2025 Alumni Recognition Award presented during the alumni reception held in Kansas City, Missouri, on Aug. 23 in conjunction with the annual Fetch dvm360 Conference. The award is given to veterinarians whose careers have served as exemplary role models for future alumni in a professional and community setting. Read his full bio here.

Equine Field service goes on its annual rodeo tour
Our Equine Field Service Team hit the rodeo circuit in late July and provided veterinary services for Manhattan's Kaw Valley Rodeo Association and the Dodge City Roundup. Dr. Chris Blevins was joined by (fourth-year students, except as noted) Brie Biermann, Brad Hill (Class of 2029), Kenzie Jones Dierks, Milan Black, Thomas Christensen, Charles Wassberg, Kaden Strom, Reaghan Jokovich, Shad Mayfield (famous calf roper), Rachel Calame and Marit Wang.
Vet Med ROCKS hosts nearly 300 youngsters for hands-on day camps
Our Vet Med ROCKS camp chair, Maeve McDonald and co-chair, Emma Boetcher, report that the day camps on July 28, 29 and 30 hosted 108 high school campers, 97 middle school campers and 65 grade school campers. Camp consisted of several guest speakers and hands-on skills.
Everybody Counts -- pets too!
Everybody Counts MHK is an event held the first Saturday in August. Our community outreach team took the lead in providing basic veterinary services for pet owners in the community who have limited access to proper care.
Welcoming the class of 2029 to K-State CVM
A group of 125 first-year students convened Aug. 20 for orientation activities including a welcome session, meetings with instructors, a couple of picnics (one hosted by the class of 2028), rabies titers clinic, a tour of the Veterinary Health Center and more!

The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, or NBAF, Laboratorian Training Program, or NLTP, just finished its sixth year of training the next generation of high-containment laboratory technicians. After online prep work, students spend eight weeks at K-State’s Biosecurity Research Institute, or BRI, learning hands-on skills.
