College of Veterinary Medicine appoints Dr. Emily Klocke for Doughman professorship

Dr. Emily Klocke, clinical professor of small animal surgery in the clinical sciences department, has been chosen as the new holder of the Roy and Lucille M. Doughman Professorship.
The recipient of this professorship must be a faculty member in the College of Veterinary Medicine in the field of small animal surgery.
Dr. Klocke teaches Surgical Principles for second-year students, Applied Clinical Skills and Surgery Laboratory for third-year students, Clinical Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery, Supplemental Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery and Advanced Soft Tissue Surgery for fourth-year students. She has taught at K-State for 21 years.
Dr. Klocke earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1999. She completed an internship, residency and a visiting clinical-instructor position at Purdue University. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
“Endowed professorships allow the college to recognize the excellence of our faculty, and Dr. Klocke has demonstrated excellence in graduate and professional education, clinical service and research," said Hodes Family Dean Annette O'Connor. "Roy Doughman was a 1940 alumnus, and the Roy and Lucille Doughman Endowment supports our outstanding faculty. It is a lasting legacy and a reminder of the impact such gifts have on animal health and the profession.”
Dr. Klocke received the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association’s KSU Distinguished Service Award in 2018. She received the Teaching Excellence Award for Third Year Students in 2011 and 2018, and she was presented with the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award in 2024 and the Norden-Pfizer Distinguished Teacher Award in 2009. She was chosen for a faculty mentoring award in 2011 and a resident mentoring award in 2009. Dr. Klocke received the Katie McCallister Compassionate Care Award from Purdue University in 2002.
