Ph.D. candidate Mahamudul Hasan received the J. Lindsay Oaks Best Student Molecular Biology Presentation Award at the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) Annual Meeting in Madison, Wisconsin, in October.

Mahamudul earned the honor for his presentation titled, "Atypical canine infectious respiratory disease in the United States: temporal diagnostic shifts, case fatality factors, and investigation of a proposed novel pathogen." This recognition highlights his comprehensive, multi-phase investigation into the complex epidemiological and molecular factors surrounding the 2023 atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD) outbreak.

Dr. Laura Miller congratulates graduate student Mahamadul Hasan on winning the J. Lindsay Oaks Best Student Molecular Biology Presentation at the annual meeting of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticiains.

Balancing macro-level epidemiological surveillance with advanced molecular diagnostics, Mahamudul Hasan’s research integrated nationwide survey data, long-term temporal tracking, and targeted PCR validation in collaboration with the Kansas Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KVDL).

In addition to the J. Lindsay Oaks Award, Mahamudul received an AAVLD Student/Trainee Travel Award to support his presentation at the annual meeting.

"As his major advisor, watching his growth as a scientist, communicator, and independent thinker has been an absolute privilege," Dr. Laura Miller said.
