CVM selects Dr. Natalia Cernicchiaro to lead Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology
Dr. Natalia Cernicchiaro has been selected to serve as the new director of Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (CORE). She succeeds former director, Dr. David Renter, who is now serving as the associate dean for research and graduate programs.
“Dr. Cernicchiaro enters this position with an exquisite background of experience to lead CORE to further success,” said Dr. Elizabeth Davis, interim dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. “Dr. Cernicchiaro has the research expertise, leadership experience and visionary dedication to serve as a valued leader of this important college center.”
Dr. Cernicchiaro earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Uruguay in 2003. She then completed a master’s degree in epidemiology from the University of Minnesota in 2006, and her Ph.D. at the University of Guelph in 2010. She was a post-doctoral fellow at Kansas State University in 2011 and then joined the faculty in the Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology in 2014. Most recently, Dr. Cernicchiaro has served as the associate director of CORE from 2018 until 2026.
“Through the course of her time as a faculty member, Dr. Cernicchiaro has been remarkably successful as a scientific leader,” Dr. Davis said. “Her funding success and publication activity is remarkably strong. As an associate director of CORE, she has helped to lead this important unit with research success and advancement.”
Dr. Cernicchiaro has provided supervisory leadership for staff and administrative members while also serving on the forefront of research project management. Through her experience in this position, she has strategically helped to foster and expand funding opportunities for future CORE success.
