Research

My area of research is viral infectious diseases with emphasis on high-consequence, emerging and zoonotic pathogens, and transboundary animal diseases. My training is in classical and molecular virology, with my primary expertise in biosafety level 3 pathogen and select agent work. This includes research on Rift Valley Fever Virus (RVFV), African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), Monkeypox Virus (MPXV), Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus (HPAIV), among other viral pathogens. My research focus involves using in vitro and in vivo models to study virus-host interactions as well as the evaluation of diagnostics, vaccines, and antiviral treatments for various important animal and zoonotic viral pathogens. I am responsible for conducting, coordinating and overseeing the BSL-3 and select agent laboratory work for the CEEZAD and CEZID.
