Awards and Scholarships Distributed During Spring Semester

The following awards and scholarships distributed during the spring semester are based on specific criteria as outlines.

  1. Allen, George W.: Awarded to the student author with the best fiction or non-fiction account of the work or lifestyle of Doctors of Veterinary Medicine written by a veterinary medical student enrolled at Kansas State University.

  2. Dillman, Dr. R.C.: Fourth year student or D.V.M. pathology graduate student who shows proficiency of diagnostic pathology to diseases of livestock and horses.

  3. Fortenberry, Dr. Jacob D. Memorial: Established to provide travel assistance for the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) delegates.

  4. Garrett, Eddie and Judy: The recipient must be from Wyandotte, Johnson, Leavenworth or Douglas counties. Recipients are selected during the spring semester of the first year and retain the scholarship until graduation.

  5. Growney, Dr. Patrick J.: Recipient shall be a Military Veteran or a resident of the State of Nebraska.

  6. Jerome, Dr. Charles A., Sr.:

  7. Jones, C. Truman and Elizabeth J.: First year student completing one semester, has demonstrated financial need, and in the top 15% of the class.

  8. Lewis, Tim Memorial: Recipients are third year students. Students must apply prior to April 15.

  9. Miller Pathology Award: Given annually to third year veterinary medicine student who has demonstrated interest and aptitude in Pathology. Selection to be made by the Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology Department.

  10. Newkirk, Jane: Any student in the D.V.M. degree program who was born in Kansas, graduated from a Kansas high school, and has financial need. Previous recipients still enrolled are given preference.

  11. Persons, Dr. O.H. and Ruth: Nebraska residents who are graduates of Nebraska high schools. Applications available during spring semester of first, second or third years for awarding in fall.

  12. Simpson, Rod: Needy and worthy student—any class.

  13. Spencer, Dr. R.H.: Third year student in the upper ½ of his/her class or a standout second year student enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine, with major interests in Food Animal Practice. First preference shall be made to a student who is a native of western Kansas and who has exhibited financial need. Second preference shall go to native Nebraskan and third to a native Oklahoman who meet all of the above eligibility criteria. Selection of recipient is to be made in the spring and awarded the following fall.

  14. Trotter, Dr. Donald M. and Marilyn B.: Fourth year student with the highest GPA who has been admitted to graduate study in Anatomy or Morphological Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and who plans to teach in either of those areas in the College of Veterinary Medicine. First preference to graduates planning to attend Kansas State University.

  15. Walters, William T. and Susan: Awarded to a second semester student committed to working in an animal shelter following completion of his/her D.V.M. degree.
