The Veterinary Health Center
The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) is pleased to offer two reduced-price programs to veterinary students and employees (faculty, house officers and staff) of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
-
Veterinary Care. This program provides a 20% fee reduction for veterinary care. Reduced cost veterinary care is made available because:
- It is expected that students, staff, and faculty will be an active part of their animal’s care, thereby reducing the cost of that care.
- By providing veterinary care to students, staff, and faculty animals, we increase case load which helps meet our teaching mission.
The 20% discount applies only for services, supplies, and pharmaceuticals related to the veterinary care provided and overseen by a senior faculty member in the VHC. It does not apply to laboratory tests or over the counter pharmaceuticals. Teaching discounts, in addition to the fee discount, must be approved in advance by the Section Head and Hospital Director. Delinquent account holders will not be given the SSF discount on services.
-
Pet Food. This program is made possible by Hills Pet Nutrition, Inc. Full-time students, staff, and faculty may purchase Hills pet food at a significantly reduced cost. Faculty and staff pet(s) must have been seen by a VHC clinician and have a medical record on file to qualify for this discount. Veterinary students are not required to have their animals examined by a VHC clinician to purchase food. Food can be purchased and picked up at the Small Animal Discharge/Emergency Desk.
In accordance with Hill's program restrictions, there is a purchase limit on discount priced pet food per individual. Students, staff and faculty may purchase pet food for up to three animals. The purchase of pet food is monitored based on the information contained in VetStar. Abuses will not be tolerated and will result in expulsion from the program. Graduation day is the final day that veterinary students can purchase and pickup food at the discounted price.
The following personnel may purchase pet food through this program:- Full-time, tenure-track FACULTY whose primary appointment is in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- FACULTY who have retired in good standing from the College of Veterinary Medicine and are no longer actively working in the veterinary profession.
- Full-time TERM/TEMPORARY FACULTY appointments in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Full-time GRADUATE STUDENTS whose appointment and program is in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Full-time HOUSE OFFICERS (Interns and Residents) in the VHC program.
- Full-time, currently enrolled, VETERINARY STUDENTS in the College's academic (DVM) curriculum.
- Full-time UNCLASSIFIED AND CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
This pet food program does not apply to animals owned in partnership or to family or friends of those listed A through G above.
