Safety and Compliance
Before exciting research can begin each summer, safety training must occur to be sure that scholars and all researchers are properly trained to work safely in the laboratory and with animals or human research subjects, infectious agents, hazardous substances and other situations that might be encountered. Each scholar should print out this CVM Safety Compliance Form and discuss what training is necessary with their mentor prior to starting any research. Each scholar will need to have their training complete and form signed by their research mentor, and a copy of this form returned to Dr. KuKanich to be kept on file.
All scholars will need to view the COVID-19 safety training video which can be found at: https://www.k-state.edu/covid-19/operations/safety.html
All scholars will need to perform the following basic online safety training which can be found at http://www.vet.k-state.edu/about/safety/training.html
- Fire safety training
- General ergo training
- Office ergo training
- Safe lifting training
All scholars will need to perform the following in-person training in:
- Hazardous waste training
- Fire extinguisher training
- Hazard communication training
- *this training is typically offered in person on day 1 of the VRSP program in May, or scholars can attend at other times throughout the year
Many scholars will need additional training specific to their study, such as IACUC, IRB, or IBC; mentors will help determine which training is appropriate
