Research

Dr. Robert K. DeLong serves as associate professor in the Nanotechnology Innovation Center Kansas State within the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. The group studies the interaction, stabilization and delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics and proteins by nanoparticles, with a particular interest in their anti-cancer, biochemical and immunological activity. Dr. DeLong’s bionanotechnology and nanomedicine work began in industry, returning to academia he helped start-up the  Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology in 2005-2006 and continues to serve on its executive editorial board. Research has received support from NIH-NCI or NIBIB, NSF-DMR, HHMI, the American Physiology Society and the Johnson Cancer Research Center. He has 14 patents or patent applications in the US, Europe and other countries, 1 textbook published by Academic Press/Elsevier on biomolecular interactions for the molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory, and has published numerous book chapters and review articles on RNA and enzyme nanoparticles, their characterization and delivery.  Some publications highlighting the group’s work are listed below:
