Veterinary Medicine Instructors teach a college level course to high school or college students in the Bahamas or Costa Rica. Our mission is to challenge students to broaden their perspectives through new experiences and environments, to inspire them to develop lifelong skills, to discover and explore their passions, and to empower them to reach beyond self-imposed limitations and take charge of their future. Broadreach veterinary medicine courses introduce high school and college students to academic material while giving them an opportunity to gain hands on experience in the field. The courses combine classroom learning, academic discussions, practical animal handling, and veterinary lab training. Our program leaders inspire students each day, fostering personal growth and cultivating leadership development. Dear Fourth Year Veterinary Students, Congratulations on all of your accomplishments thus far in the veterinary field. We know how much work you have put in to getting to veterinary school and working your way through it. You are almost finished! With that being said, your work has only just begun. Now comes the time for you to find a job, internship, or residency for after graduation. Here at Davie County Large Animal Hospital, we know how stressful this time can be and we are here to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for those students interested in pursuing a career in Equine Practice. Davie County Large Animal Hospital is now offering an internship program that gives first year veterinarians the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on skills working in a fast paced, fully equipped, state-of-the-art facility with an abundant and diverse caseload of equine patients. This demanding program allows the intern to gain experience in a wide array of veterinary services such as Equine Surgery & Anesthesia, Sports Medicine, Reproduction, Rehabilitation, Acupuncture and Podiatry as well as General Healthcare and Emergency Medicine. This program will sharpen diagnostic, therapeutic, and communication skills of the recent graduate. Interns will assist clinicians in the hospital and/or on ambulatory calls every day. After a 60-day training/probation period, the intern may be given primary responsibility over ambulatory calls. The Intern will also be responsible for night/weekend care of any hospitalized patients and assisting the surgeon on-call with in-house emergencies. One publication either a case report or retrospective study is required to be completed during the year. If you are interested in applying to Davie County Large Animal Hospital’s Internship Position, please see the attached form with what you will need to submit to apply.
