Thank you for your submission. If this animal tests positive or indeterminate for rabies, or is unsuitable for rabies testing, your local or state health department will contact you to collect more information. The health department will conduct a risk assessment to evaluate people and animals potentially exposed to rabies. This may include recommendations for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis in humans and management of animals exposed to rabies. For any questions, please contact your local health department or the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Epidemiology Hotline (24 hours a day) at 877-427-7317.
Specimens received after 12 noon on Friday or on the weekend will be tested on Monday (or the next working day if Monday is a holiday). Specimens held for shipment on Monday should be refrigerated. Freezing the specimen may delay testing as specimens must thaw before testing can commence.
