Dr. Lawrence Bramlage

Dr. Lawrence R. Bramlage was chosen to receive the 2001 Alumni Fellows' Award along with nine other Fellows' representing the Colleges of Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Architecture Planning and Design, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Human Ecology, Technology and Aviation and Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Bramlage and his wife, Marilyn were in Manhattan from February 25 through the 27, 2001. The awards were presented at a banquet hosted by the KSU Alumni Association the evening of February 27, 2001 6:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Country Club.

Dr. Bramlage was born in Marysville, Kansas. He and his wife, Marilyn, recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. They have a daughter, Joey, and a son, Matthew.

Dr. Bramlage graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from KSU in 1975 and a M.S. from Ohio State University in 1978. Since graduation, he has worked in academia at OSU and as a surgeon to the Sterlingbrook Equine Center in Pittstown, NJ. Dr. Bramlage is presently owner and surgeon of the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dr. Bramlage has been named in both Who's Who in Science and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He is currently the consulting surgeon for Lloyds of London Insurance Company and a Member of the Neighborhood Civic Association for Kentucky. He is Board of Directors and Meeting Chairman for the Study of Internal Fixation in Davos, Switzerland and a Diplomate Member, since 1993. He is past member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. He is past Regent of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Several of the professional organizations that Dr. Bramlage is a member of include American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, Kentucky Veterinary Medicine Association, and American Colleges of Veterinary Science. He is television consultant for the Breeders Cup (NBC) and for the Triple Crown (ABC).

Dr. Bramlage was recipient of a Gold Medal for Contributions to Thoroughbred Racing from the Jockey Club of America in 1994. Some of his other accomplishments are the 66 refereed articles and six book chapters that he published, his involvement in getting thirteen research grants and funding from various U.S. Government and equine private foundations. He is currently Chairman of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, the largest equine research funding organization in the United States.

The KSU Alumni Fellows Program is sponsored by the Deans' Council, the President's Office and the Alumni Association. It recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers. Since 1983 the program has brought successful alumni back to campus to meet with students and faculty to share their expertise in the classroom and at informal settings. Fellows are chosen to return as Distinguished guests and as mentors, friends and counselors. They are honored in recognition of the ultimate measure of a university - not curricula, facilities or programs, but the quality of its alumni.

We are very proud to have Dr. Lawrence Bramlage as our 12th Alumni Fellow. There were several activities planned during Dr. Bramlage's visit. Dr. Bramlage was asked to speak during this time, all were invited to attend.

Dr. Bramlage was honored by Kansas State University, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Kansas State University Alumni Association at the Fellows Award Banquet on February 27, 6:30 p.m., Manhattan Country Club.
