Nido2017 is organized through the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Kansas State University. The University was founded in 1863, and has been evolved into a modern institution of higher education. The CVM is dedicated to scholarship through innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and service to promote animal and human health. In 2009, the United State Department of Homeland Security selected Manhattan, Kansas as the location for the National Bio and Agro-defense Facility (NBAF), which is being built adjacent to the main campus of K-State, in close proximity to the CVM, the Biosecurity Research Institute, and the USDA Agricultural Research Services Arthropod-Borne Animal Disease Research Unit.
