Basic Safety Training
All CVM employees must complete basic safety training. Newly hired laboratory personnel must complete all training before work may begin in the laboratory. All other personnel have 30 days to complete training. All employees must have the Safety Compliance Form on file. (For laboratory personnel, this form must be in the laboratory training documentation folder; Facilities maintains their own training.)
Basic safety training must be renewed every 2 years.
The following link will take you to the online training site for the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. This site provides links to the online training required for basic safety training here at the CVM as well as the safety policies for Kansas State University workers.
For all personnel, the following training is required:
- Chemical Hazcom Training
- Fire Safety Training
- General Ergo Training
- Office Ergo Training
- Safe Lifting Training
For all laboratory personnel (research, teaching, service, diagnostic), the following training is also required:
- Hazardous Waste Training
- College of Arts and Science, Hazardous Waste Training
- Lab Safety Training
- Proactive Safety Training
Individuals must view and understand the material presented in the videos listed on the CVM intranet site. The following link will take you directly to these videos. NOTE: These videos are on the CVM intranet; you must log in to view them. These videos are also available for check out at the CVM library, the A&P Research Management Office (Coles 110) and the Clinical Sciences Lab (Mosier O-226).
Individuals must attend one session of the “Hazardous Waste Awareness Class” provided by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. The schedule for these classes can be found on the following link:
Sharps Safety - The University Research Compliance Office grants permission to Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine for use of Video 3 "Sharps Safety" for the purpose of teaching/educating employees and veterinary students in the proper handling of sharps.
