Safety and Compliance

Before exciting research can begin each summer, safety training must occur to be sure that scholars and researchers are properly trained to work safely in the laboratory and with animals or human research subjects, infectious agents, hazardous substance and other situations that might be encountered.

Scholars should print out and complete the initial training form https://www.vet.k-state.edu/about/safety/training.html.

Once safety training is complete, a copy of the signed form should be returned to Dr. KuKanich to be kept on file. Scholars who might have already completed safety training for previous research experiences can discuss if any additional training is needed with their mentors and submit a copy of their previously completed form to Dr. KuKanich.

Additionally, scholars should discuss with their mentors whether IACUC, IBC, and/or IRB training is needed for their summer research and complete this training prior to starting their research.

To gain access to necessary laboratories, rooms, and/or buildings for the purpose of summer research, please complete and sign this form, have your mentor sign, and return to your mentor’s department representative. When you submit your access request form, you will also need to submit a copy of your completed safety compliance form. Within the College of Veterinary Medicine, department representatives are:
