Graduate Student Scholarships
College of Veterinary Medicine Fall 2009

Application process:

A letter written by the applicant describing his/her intended use for these funds should be returned with each form. The applicant’s advisor must submit a supporting letter of recommendation including a description of the project/area of study and how the funds will be used. Information may be requested from the applicant’s department to determine if he/she meets the criteria for the scholarship and provide additional information to assist in funding successful applications (e.g. reimbursement for expenses, scholarship, tuition and awards). Applicants are encouraged to review the different ways in which funds can be requested (see below). Requests for scholarships should be submitted to the office of the Graduate Program coordinator (106 Coles) by 5:00 P.M., December 4, 2009.

Review process:

Applications will be reviewed by the College of Veterinary Medicine Research Committee and ranked according to merit and need. The number of applicants to be funded will be determined by the Research Committee based on the number and quality of the applications. The Research Committee will also determine the amount of each award.

The Research Committee will complete its review process in early January 2010. Applicants will be notified regarding funding decisions in January, 2010.

Ways to use graduate student financial assistance

  1. If the request is for research supplies, meeting registration or travel, a request form with receipts must be submitted to the CVM Business Office before being forwarded to KSU Foundation.

  2. A stipend must be payable to Kansas State University. The recipient will be placed on the payroll and will receive the stipend as a state check with taxes withheld from each check. It is recommended that awards/scholarships be given as described in (1) rather than a stipend since the payroll process is more complex.

  3. If assistance is requested in the form of either tuition or a scholarship, a scholarship form must be completed and approved through Student Financial Assistance.
