All College Convocation
Guest Speaker

Dr. John "Jack" L. Mara devoted more than 50 years of service to the veterinary profession. The 74th Annual Western Veterinary Conference in 2002 was dedicated with pride to Dr. Mara for his outstanding achievements during his career.

He retired from Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. in 2000 after more than 22 years. He created a College Program with all of the 27 U.S. and four Canadian veterinary colleges, providing instruction and Hill's diets to veterinary students and to the teaching hospitals. He was instrumental in the creation and establishment of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition, which later named him an Honorary Diplomate. He made numerous media appearances as the Hill's spokesperson for eight years.

In his later years, he created similar college programs in four foreign countries. After graduating from Cornell University with a doctorate in veterinary medicine, Dr. Mara operated a small animal practice in New York for more than 28 years prior to joining the Hill's team in Topeka, KS, where he continues to reside.
