Olathe Campus - Kansas State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory - Research Technician
The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is hiring a full-time Research Technician at the K-State Olathe campus. This position will be responsible for the setup of specimens and diagnostic case management in the Microbial Surveillance Laboratory. Specific tasks include: entering case information and requested tests into the LIMS and daily case log sheets, maintaining a proper stock of microbiological media, maintaining frozen isolates, isolation/identification of potential pathogenic bacteria and conducting laboratory quality control procedures.
A bachelor’s degree in medical technology, microbiology biology, chemistry or animal science along with a minimum of 6 months experience in a laboratory setting is required. Computer skills and ability to use a laboratory information database, along with organization/communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are necessary. Candidates with microbiology/diagnostic laboratory experience are preferred.
The position, at times, will require prolonged periods of work in a biological safety cabinet with potential pathogenic organisms, the candidate should be able to perform duties under these circumstances. Hours are primarily 8:00am-5:00pm but may require work outside of these hours, including occasional evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
