Large Animal Nursing/Technical Supervisor

The Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University invites applications for an unclassified professional position for a Large Animal Nursing/Technical Supervisor. This position will serve as supervisor of nursing/technical staff and management of physical space/equipment in the Large Animal area of the Veterinary Health Center.

Candidates must have completed a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. A minimum of five years of post-graduate experience in veterinary medicine, preferably with large animals, is required as well as a minimum of one year of post-graduate experience supervising veterinary technician support staff.   Other requirements include being registered as a paraprofessional under the authority of Kansas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners upon employment, proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and data entry and the ability to work alternate shifts, holidays, weekends or on-call duty on occasion if needed. Preferred qualifications include working knowledge of human resource management and conflict resolution, strong oral and written communication skills, creative problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a regular work schedule and cover open shifts as needed in the Large Animal area, provide care for patients as directed by clinicians, and manage equipment, supplies, pharmaceuticals and their location. The candidate will also manage and assign daily tasks and responsibilities to ensure optimal patient care and assist in instruction of veterinary students.
