Research

Dr. Robert K. DeLong serves as associate professor in the Nanotechnology Innovation Center Kansas State within the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. The overall thrust in his research program is the impact of nanomaterials on the structure, function and delivery of physiologically or therapeutically relevant nucleic acids and proteins. Research has received support from NIH-NCI or NIBIB, NSF-DMR, HHMI and APS. His group has a keen interest in the anti-cancer properties of nanoparticles when combined with RNA and is studying the nanobio interface with both RNA and protein, for potential chemotherapeutic or immunotherapeutic application against cancer and infectious disease. Dr. DeLong is a co-founder of the Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology and continues to serve on its executive editorial board and serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine Research. He has 14 patents or patent applications, 1 textbook published by Academic Press/Elsevier on biomolecular interactions for the molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory, and has published numerous book chapters and review articles on RNA and enzyme nanoparticles, their characterization and delivery.  A bibliography of some recent representative publications from the group are shown below:
