Dr. Hans Coetzee obtained his Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort), South Africa in 1996 and was admitted to membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Following graduation, Dr. Coetzee spent four years in mixed veterinary practice in Northern Ireland where he served as treasurer for the North of Ireland Veterinary Association and was awarded the Northern Ireland Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2000. In September 2000, he obtained a Certificate in Cattle Health and Production from the RCVS. Later that year, Dr. Coetzee joined the Research and Development department at Norbrook Laboratories Ltd. where he conducted pharmaceutical trials in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) for submission to both European and American regulatory authorities. In 2002, Dr. Coetzee relocated to the United States where he was appointed as an adjunct instructor and later was hired on as a veterinarian at Iowa State University. He obtained his PhD in Veterinary Microbiology from Iowa State University in August 2005. Dr Coetzee's professional interests include dairy production medicine and food animal clinical pharmacology. In his spare time, Dr Coetzee enjoys fly fishing and gardening.
His active area of research involves the study of chemotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of hemoparasitic diseases such as Anaplasma marginale.
