Faculty Positions in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery: The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for two tenure track Soft Tissue Surgery faculty positions in the Section of Companion Animal Surgery. The Cornell University Hospital for Animals is equipped with extensive therapeutic and diagnostic equipment including rigid and flexible video-endoscopy, Ho-YAG, CO2, and diode lasers, flat-panel C-arm for intra-operative imaging, 1.5 tesla MRI, 16-slice CT, nuclear imaging, intraoperative ultrasound, and a linear accelerator. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Board certification in veterinary surgery (ACVS or ECVS) is preferred, but candidates who have recently completed an approved residency and are board eligible in veterinary surgery will be considered. Clinical and/or basic science research experience is desirable. Clinical expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques and surgical oncology are strongly desired. Distribution of effort in the section and department will be determined in accordance with the service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate’s expertise and academic goals in soft tissue surgery. PLUM ISLAND ANIMAL DISEASE CENTER RESEARCH PARTICIPATION PROGRAM DVM APPOINTMENT Description: The Agricultural Research Service (ARS, USDA) is immediately seeking a highly motivated and energetic Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) to join the Foreign Animal Disease Research Unit team at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC). This position is available immediately and is funded for 1 year, with the opportunity of renewal for up to 3 years. The position will primarily involve conducting research related to pathogenesis and screening tools for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) within the facility’s BSL-3 containment laboratory. PIADC is the only U.S. laboratory facility performing research, development and diagnosis of foreign animal diseases of highest threat to the U.S. This critical national asset is located off the northeast coast of Long Island, NY, and accessible by government-provided ferry from Orient Point, NY, and Old Saybrook, CT. Research at PIADC is performed on animal diseases that threaten the nation's animal industries and exports. One of the missions of PIADC is to develop technologies to help mitigate the risks of catastrophic economic losses caused by foreign animal disease (FAD) agents accidentally or deliberately introduced into the United States.
