PVM is one of only three veterinary technology programs in the U.S. that are integrated into a college of veterinary medicine. The veterinary technology students rotate through all areas of the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) where they are directly supervised by credentialed veterinary technician staff and work in teams with the veterinary medical students. The VTH is a full-service primary care and referral hospital and includes the Animal Emergency Service and ambulatory practices. The Program Director will lead the veterinary technology program and manage its operation, including the admissions process, curriculum oversight, outcomes assessment, budget, and veterinary technology administrative staff management. The Director is responsible for assuring that the program meets the accreditation requirements of the AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities and preparing all reports. As a faculty member, the Program Director will be expected to demonstrate scholarship congruent with the goals of the Program and PVM. Teaching responsibilities will be assigned in an area of interest or expertise at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. The Program Director serves as a liaison with veterinarians, veterinary technicians and technologists and veterinary technology programs in Indiana. The Program Director will serve on University committees that support the mission of the veterinary technology program and the College. The Program Director is expected to become a national leader in veterinary technology education and to participate in other state and national activities that advance the status of the Program and the veterinary technology profession. Commitment to the PVM missions of discovery, learning, and engagement and the support of the PVM strategic plan (http://www.vet.purdue.edu/strategic_plan/StrategicPlan2008-2014.pdf) are essential. The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of cultural diversity in the College.
