TEACHING

I am a dedicated teacher and a Wakonse Teaching Fellow. I and Dr. Dryden team up to present the Clinical Veterinary Parasitology Course in the fall of the 2nd year of the professional veterinary curriculum. I also teach a Parasitolgy review session for 4th year students and teach and coordinate the 3rd year course, Zoonoses and Preventative Medicine.

SERVICE

I am the Supervisor of Diagnostic Parasitology for the Diagnostic Laboratory and Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Since 2002 I have been a member of the Bayer Advantage® International Flea Susceptibility Monitoring Initiative - Insecticide resistance in C. felis. I am on the VDL CE committee and serve as Student club advisor for both the Canine Club and Small Ruminant Practitioners. I also presented at the 2002-2005 Veterinary Technician Conferences.

As a personal service project I have been involved with the KSDS Puppy in Training Program since June 10, 2003. I brought Maize, a 10 week old female yellow Labrador puppy, home from Kansas Specialty Dog Service in Washington Kansas. Maize was by my side from June 2003 thru spring 2005. She attended classes and seminars through out KSUCVM and could be found snoozing under my desk in Coles 333. Maize put smiles on the faces of faculty, students and staff daily. She was available for post exam hugs at all times. She was returned to KSDS early in the spring of 2005 for further evaluation and training. She passed the rigorous health exam and went on to be a partner for a blind or disabled person. She will always carry part of my heart and will be missed by all of her friends here at the college.

RESEARCH

I am a 1971 KSUCVM graduate who practiced small animal medicine in Virginia for 23 years before returning to earn my PhD in Insecticide Resistance in Fleas. This insecticide resistance research is continuing and there are plans to include ticks into the project.
