Dr. Mosier Receives Distinguished Alumnus Award and American Veterinary Medical Association Award


On June 6, 1993 Dr. Jacob E. Mosier, Professor Emeritus at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University was recognized by the College Alumni Association as the 1993 Distinguished Alumnus. On July 20, 1993, Dr. Mosier was honored at the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) convention in Minneapolis, Minn. by receiving the AVMA Award. Throughout his career, Dr. Mosier has challenged veterinarians and organized veterinary medicine to prepare for tomorrow, today.

Dr. Mosier became actively involved in the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association (KVMA) and the AVMA shortly after receiving his DVM in 1946 and MS in 1948 from Kansas State University. He has served as Vice President and President of the KVMA and Vice-President of the World Veterinary Association, as well as chairman for numerous AVMA and KVMA committees and councils including the AVMA Executive Board. Dr. Mosier served as President of the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians from 1965 through 1977.

In 1964 he received the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award; American Animal Hospital Association Award in 1973; and KVMA Veterinarian of the Year in 1977. Dr. Mosier was a member of Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Regional Planning Commission, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Dr. Mosier has authored 20 books and chapters and over 100 papers. Dr. Mosier's leadership in education and research has been recognized not only through numerous awards from a multitude of organizations but in the day-to-day care his former students provide to their clients and patients.

Dr. Mosier, a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, has been included in the Who's Who in Science, Who's Who in Frontiers of Science and Technology, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in American Agriculture, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in America.

Dr. Mosier officially retired from the College in 1993. His time is now spent farming with his son, Kelly, volunteering at the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs and as Program Coordinator for the Small Animal Section of the Western State Veterinary Conference.
