Re-Using K-State Online Courses: Tips and Tricks

After you know some basics about K-State Online to create a new course, this workshop will introduce some tricks on reusing a course from a previous semester. How to change a course title with one click? What changes will be archived and what changes will not be archived when you update an existing course? What clean-up needs to be done? What items need to be watched out for when re-using a course? Come join us to find answers to these questions and more.
Camtasia Relay and DyKnow in the Classroom

Camtasia Relay is a lecture capturing tool that can be used to record lectures outside or within your PowerPoint presentations in the classroom, in your office, or at your home. DyKnow is a teaching and learning tool that can be used to engage students as well as monitor and block students from digital distractions or online cheating. If you are interested in recording your lectures or engaging students for active learning and preventing them from digital distractions or online cheating, this workshop will be the right session for you.

Quick Tips on Microsoft Office 2010 to Enhance Productivity

This workshop introduces some tips on using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to improve productivity. Topics include creating a template, adding headers and footers, embedding YouTube videos to a PowerPoint presentation, customizing the to-do bar and creating appointments in color in Outlook, and more. With one hour investment of your time, you will increase productivity in your teaching, learning, and workplace.
Exploring Online Instruction: Rethinking Teaching in the Digital Age

As an informational session, this seminar will introduce differences between classroom teaching and online teaching, online course design planning, different stages of online learning, and a useful framework for designing effective online teaching. Using a Template to Format Thesis and Dissertation

Created by the Graduate School at K-State, the template makes it much easier to format your thesis and dissertation, including table of contents, sections, section and page numbering, tables and figures, reference management, and other related components. With a 60-minute investment of time attending the workshop, you will save many hours in formatting your writing into the standard format required by the Graduate School.
Using EndNote to Manage Bibliographies and References

EndNote is a commercial reference management software package that can help you manage bibliographies and references while writing articles. With this tool in hand, you can easily import, export, and manage your citations and references from different bibliographic databases. Writing is, indeed, fun and less time consuming with the assistance of EndNote.
Facilitating Teaching and Learning with Concept Maps

A concept map is a visual presentation showing the relationships among a set of connected concepts or ideas. As a tangible way to represent knowledge and ideas in graphs, concept mapping is a technique that encourages students to learn meaningfully and effectively. Educational research has found that concept maps can be used as an instructional strategy to improve comprehension and retention of knowledge, an organizational tool to facilitate curriculum and program development, and a management tool to assess learning. This seminar will introduce basics of concept maps, show concept map examples, share research on concept maps, and demonstrate some free software tools for creating concept maps.
