Values:

The members of the Department of Clinical Sciences value professionalism; integrity; knowledge; scholarship; clinical skills; teaching skills; innovation, diversity, and creativity; excellence; respectful communication, cooperation and collaboration; collegiality; and a strong work ethic. These values guide our behavior and allocation of resources.

Vision:

Our vision is to be regarded as the premier academic unit among our peer institutions. The pursuit of excellence is the overarching factor in all we do. We seek to be the best at what we do. We put our students first and give priority to what we teach as well as what and how well our students learn. Research and scholarly productivity are fundamental to our vision and form the basis of true academic eminence.

Mission/Goals Statement:

Our mission is to discover, apply, and disseminate scientific knowledge in veterinary medicine. Our goals are to provide quality veterinary medical education and postgraduate training, to advance the science of veterinary medicine through basic and applied research, and to offer cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic services to benefit animal health, welfare, productivity, management, and profitability. Our goals are closely tied to those of the Veterinary Health Center. Excellent clinical skills and service are necessary to support teaching and clinical research. We strive to accomplish our teaching, scholarly, and clinical activities in a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie that creates a supportive, stimulating, and enjoyable environment for faculty, staff, and students.

Action Plans:

  1. Recruit, retain, and reward faculty who embrace our values and are successful and productive teachers, scholars, and clinicians.

  2. Appropriately reward faculty for effective and innovative teaching, including curriculum enhancement.

  3. Improve plan of work flexibility in order to take advantage of individual faculty strengths in teaching, scholarship, and clinical service.

  4. Continue to evaluate and improve our curriculum and teaching methods.

  5. Provide resources for faculty scholarly productivity and reward faculty who discover and disseminate scientific knowledge.
