Department of Clinical Sciences
Kansas State University
Applications for the Spring 2009 semester must be received by
December 18,
2008.
The Department of Clinical
Sciences (DCS) offers an Academic Review Program (ARP) that is designed
to give foreign veterinary graduates the opportunity to hear current
lecture material in the classroom and access resource material in our
library. This program will facilitate preparation for the clinical
training and/or licensure examination. Accepted participants will be able to
attend core lecture courses offered to the 3rd year veterinary students
in the fall and/or spring semester. Lectures for the fall semester
include: Food Animal Medicine, Medicine II, Surgery I, Zoological Medicine, and Toxicology.
Lectures for the spring semester include: Surgery II, Production Medicine, Medicine III, Zoonosis and Preventative Medicine,
Clinical Nutrition, and Theriogenology. ARP participants will
not be allowed to attend in laboratory classes. We will allow participants to decide whether or not they
wish to participate in test taking. The Veterinary
library is available for resource material and study area during normal
operating hours and a fee of $10 will be required to obtain a
visitor/non-university library ID. This ID will allow the participants to use
the KSU libraries.
Participants enrolled in the academic
review program will not receive college credit for their participation
in the program. This program is offered by contractual agreement between
the student and the Department of Clinical Sciences on a
semester-by-semester basis. The Department reserves the right to not
allow a student to continue in the program. The Department further
reserves the right to discontinue the program at the end of any
semester.
This program is not a clinical
experience and it will not count for Educational Commission for Foreign
Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) Step 4 or Program for the Assessment of
Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) requirements. Acceptance into
the Academic Review Program does not imply in any way that the student
will be accepted into the ICY/PAVE/ECFVG Clinical Year Program at Kansas State
University.
The participation fee is $2500 per
semester. Books, class notes and other instructional material costs are
additional and required (should be no more than $200 per semester). ARP participants are not KSU students and are not eligible for student financial aid or student loans. Selected candidates are personally responsible for all financial aspects of participation in the program.
Participation fee must be paid to
the Department in full prior to class attendance.
Participants are responsible to
arrange their own housing. Housing is not provided as a part of the
Academic Review Program; however, DCS will provide a list of housing
opportunities available in Manhattan.
Participants in the program are
required to obtain their own health insurance. The participant must
provide documentation of medical insurance prior to acceptance in the
program. The University provides no liability insurance and accepts no
liability for the actions of these participants or the death or injury
to these participants. Each participant will be required to accept and
sign a liability release, a copy of which is attached and becomes a part
of the contract.
Participants may have access to
campus parking by purchasing a KSU parking permit.
The University does not provide
participants access to other University facilities or services.
Participants must comply with the
University's rules and regulations. If any participant does not comply
with the established training protocols or causes disturbances to other
aspects of the University's educational programs, such participants,
upon recommendation of the college faculty and with concurrence of the
Dean of Veterinary Medicine or his/her designated representative, will
be discontinued from the program.
A checklist is provided with your
application. All items listed on the checklist must be received at
Kansas State before your application will be reviewed. Selection will be
made on the following basis: Candidates must be graduates of a school of
veterinary medicine, must show promise of being successful, and have
positive recommendations and evaluations. Submit at least three letters
of recommendation with signatures from veterinarians. Applications will
be processed in the order they are received and the number of
participants accepted into the program will be limited.
