POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant Service Director for Certified Semen Services (CSS) and Assistant Technical Director National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB)

The Association:    
The National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) is located in Columbia, Missouri and is the national trade association for businesses in the United States involved with artificial insemination of cattle.  NAAB works directly with USDA, U.S. Embassies, appropriate Government Ministries and other global agencies to open and maintain trade access for bovine semen throughout the world.  U.S. genetic improvement programs have developed several breeds that are highly productive and are internationally recognized for their outstanding characteristics.  This has allowed steady growth of the U.S. AI industry.

Certified Semen Services, Inc. (CSS), a wholly owned subsidiary of NAAB, provides industry self-regulation through an objective auditing service for sire and semen identification, sire health testing, and semen quality control.

The Assistant Service Director will work closely with the CSS Service Director to carry out the business of the Association with a primary focus on auditing programs and services as well as technical aspects of the association.  The location of the position is flexible based on the candidate’s circumstances.

Major duties:
¿    Perform unannounced on-site audits (travel required) and prepare written reports on findings with respect to compliance with the CSS Agreement and programs
¿    Identify, evaluate and engage new opportunities for expanding CSS services to AI companies both domestically and internationally
¿    Work closely with USDA-APHIS developing import and export requirements for bovine semen
¿    Collaborate with USDA-APHIS to meet the terms and conditions of the MOU between USDA-APHIS and NAAB/CSS
¿    Administer the Association’s technical programs
¿    Support the Service Director and President in carrying out Association business

Qualifications:
¿    Experience in the AI industry required
¿    A DVM degree or a Ph.D. degree or Master’s degree in Animal Science or Dairy Science is preferred
¿    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer skills (MS office, etc.)
¿    An outstanding record of achievement and leadership in the cattle industry with the desire and ability to take on additional responsibilities within the Association over time

I own an established mixed animal practice in south central Missouri.  We are looking for someone who wishes to practice quality small and large animal medicine.  The practice gross is 48% large and 52% small.  The service part of the practice is 37%  large and 63% small.   The 90% bovine portion of the large animal consists mainly of establishing and maintaining herd health programs for our clients.  The remainder of large animal comprises small ruminants and equine.   The small animal is mostly companion animals but also do some exotics.  We provide wellness programs as well as routine and advanced diagnostics and surgery.  We have in house lab facilities as well as digital and portable x-ray facilities.   We do provide emergency services for both our large and small animal clients.

The area is in the southern Missouri Ozarks with clear water streams and lots of public lands.  The school systems are very good and small enough that the students do not get lost, but large enough to offer a good base for advanced education.
