The K-State College of Veterinary Medicine uses Microsoft's Office 365 for its email, communication and collaboration services. You may find the following information useful concerning this service:
Microsoft Outlook setting for Office 365:
New Outlook installations
These instructions explain how to setup your CVM email account on a new installation of Microsoft Outlook. There are separate instructions for computers connected to Active Directory (CVM Network) and computers NOT connected to Active Directory.

Open Outlook and let it auto-fill Name and E-mail address --> hit Next -->

Choose setup E-mail Account:
Your Name: Adam Umscheid
E-mail Address: email@example.com

Existing Outlook installations
The following images represent what you should expect to happen to an existing Outlook installation after your account has been migrated:
When First opening outlook you may see a disconnected message – soon a prompt for a password will appear.
Fill in your firstname.lastname@example.org
Add your password and check the box to remember your credentials
A box may appear telling you to restart. Click ok and close outlook and re-open it.
Outlook will show you are connected again. YOUR FINISHED!

Managing Junk E-Mail
The Office 365 e-mail service aggressively filters for junk e-mail, so it is important that you periodically check your Junk E-Mail folder. If you find a message in the Junk E-Mail folder that is not junk, simply right click on the message and mark it as "Not Junk". This will put it back in your Inbox.
Managing Password Changes
Office 365 has been implemented in a manner which allows the use of Vet Med UserID/password credentials. Because of this, the Office 365 Outlook Web App can NOT be utilized as a method to change your password*. We have setup a Password Management application (link also available on the CaTS Resources page) that should be used to manage password changes. Currently, you can only change your password with this application. However, the first time you use the application, you will be prompted to complete several question and answer pairs which can be used for forgotten password management self-service in the future.
*It should be noted that this causes an issue when logging in to wireless devices (tablets, laptops ….) connected to "KSU Wireless" in Trotter Hall (and soon the entire complex) for the first time after changing your password. Since the wireless connection on "KSU Wireless" is not established until after you have logged in to the device, the user is required to log in to their device using their old password, and must then allow the device to maintain connection to Active Directory for at least 90 minutes to guarantee the device cache is updated with the new password. The other option is to connect the device to the wired network before turning it on, in which case the new password is synchronized before the login page is displayed.
Mobile Device setup for Office 365:
CVM Office 365 email accounts are accessible from most modern mobile devices including iPhones, iPads and smartphones with Windows Mobile, Android or webOS operating systems. Most devices can access email, calendar and contacts. Some devices may also access notes and tasks.
Remember to change passwords on all your mobile devices configured for email (phones, tablets, PDAs) whenever you change your CVM password. Failure to do so may result in your CVM account being locked due to multiple invalid login attempts.
iOS Devices - iPhones, iPads
- Delete old CVM account:
Any previous CVM account should be deleted. With the device disconnected from the computer, touch the "Settings" icon on your device to set up EMail. Under "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" select "Exchange" and select "Delete Account".
- Add New account:
With the device disconnected from the computer, touch the "Settings" icon on your device to set up EMail. Under "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" choose Add Account, select Exchange, and enter the following information:
Password: Your CVM password
Select "Next", wait for account to verify, select "Save".
Be sure the switches are ON for the services you want to sync (Mail, Contacts, Calendars)
- Delete Current Account
- Add New Account
Press the Menu button
Press the Accounts button
Press the Menu button again, then select Add Account
Select Exchange ActiveSync
- Please use the following settings:
Email AccountName: email@example.com
Password: CVM password
Account Type: Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
You will receive an error ( because of the server name), select OK and ADD
You will see either Domain/Username or Username - enter: firstname.lastname@example.org
Accept the activation notice
Remote Security administration select OK
Set email preferences
Name the account
BlackBerry devices cannot connect to the CVM Exchange system via ActivSync and will need to be set up using POP or IMAP. Call the CaTS hotline (785-532-4725) for configuration information.
Windows Mobile Devices
- On Start, swipe left to the App list, select Settings, and then select email + accounts.
- Select add an account and then select Outlook.
- In the E-mail address box, type your CVM e-email address.
- In the Password box, type your password.
- Select Sign in.
