The Kansas State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital offers a three year ophthalmology residency which combines residency training with graduate work leading to the M.S. Degree. The goal of the program is to prepare the resident to pursue an academic career if desired. During the training program it is expected that the resident will become qualified to take the board examination of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) and will have completed the course work and research needed to defend for a M.S. or Ph.D. degree. This intense training program requires the successful applicant to have established an excellent academic record and to have achieved intern level or greater clinical competency.
The Ophthalmology Service is supported by one board certified ophthalmologist. The VMTH has an excellent case load for residency training and offers exposure to all domestic species as well as exotics. The ophthalmology service has state of the art diagnostic and surgical equipment. The College of Veterinary Medicine and the Ophthalmology Service have established good working relationships with local ophthalmologists and optometrists as well as the University of Kansas Medical Center.
