Service
I serve the veterinary and livestock community and ultimately the public through service on boards and organizations relevant to my expertise.   I currently serve as the Bovine Commodity group Chair for the National Animal Health Reporting System Steering Committee,  Co-Chair of the BVD Working group Research Subcommittee, for the National Cattleman’s Beef Association, and on the Editorial Advisory Board Preventive Veterinary Medicine.

Teaching
I teach the Intermediate Epidemiology class for graduate students and MPH students.   I also teach an Introduction to Disease Modeling class for graduate students.

Research
My research interests are in the epidemiology of disease and decreased production in beef operations, and the application of epidemiology and simulation modeling to facilitate decision making.  My research includes modeling biosecurity practices for beef operations including the use of Risk Analysis to identify optimal Biosecurity programs for BVDV and Tritrichomonas.

I am also actively involved in modeling the disease and economic effects of a Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in the U.S.

My research interests also include the efficient and safe production of beef. My work here includes experimental and observational research on the epidemiology and ecology of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and other VTEC in cattle.  I also am involved in modeling of shedding dynamics and transmission of E. coli O157 through the environment.
