Abstract Submissions

All meeting participants who wish to present either an oral presentation or a poster presentation should submit an abstract. Abstracts MUST be received by June 15, 2007.  Deadline extended to July 20, 2007.

Presentation Topic Areas

Abstracts can be submitted in 9 topic areas (select the appropriate topic area on the abstract submission form):

  • Emerging Pathogens and Bioterrorism
  • Genomics & Proteomics
  • Pathogenesis
  • Immunity & Vaccine Development
  • Genetics, Physiology & Metabolism
  • Ecology, Epidemiology & Infection in Animals
  • Clinical Aspects, Diagnosis and Treatment
  • Host, Vector & Pathogen Interactions
  • Genetic Manipulation (Special Emphasis Topic Area)

Special Emphasis Topic Area: Genetic Manipulation

The committee encourages investigators to consider submitting abstracts on topics related to Genetic Manipulation systems for rickettsiales - regardless of whether the research is totally complete or data has been published. As many of you agree, this is one area where we need to make considerable progress. We hope that the exchange of discussions and recent data from laboratories pursuing this line of research will aid considerably to the establishment of successful methods of transformation and mutational analysis in rickettsiales of the genera, Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, Neorickettsia, Rickettsia, Coxiella and possibly other pathogens of interest to the ASR.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

All Abstracts must be submitted on-line. Abstract submissions will include the following: presentation title, authors (with an asterisk following the presenting author), affiliation(s), and abstract text. The body of the abstract should be no more than 300 words in length and should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document. Do not fax or land mail abstracts. A meeting program and abstracts will be compiled and posted on-line at the meeting website as well as printed and distributed to registered meeting participants.

Oral Presentations:
Oral (PowerPoint) presentations will be no more than 12 minutes in length (allowing up to 3 minutes for questions and answers). The presenting author will receive a confirmation when the abstract is received. The presenting author will also receive information indicating the day and time of the presentation by July 31, 2007 August 10, 2007 (extended due to the abstract submission deadline extension).  Due to the limited number of slots available for oral presentations, the organizing committee may designate some submissions as poster presentations, based on the number of abstracts submitted for each topic area.

Poster Presentations:
Poster sessions will be scheduled throughout the meeting. Each accepted poster will be assigned to a single-day presentation (set-up in the morning and remove at the end of the day). The available poster boards are approximately 4 feet high and 4 feet long (120 cm x 120 cm); push pins will be provided. The presenting author will receive a confirmation when the abstract has been received. The presenting author will also receive information indicating the day and time of the presentation by by July 31, 2007 August 10, 2007 (extended due to the abstract submission deadline extension).
