K-State Faculty Speakers
James S. Cullor DVM PhD
Dr. Cullor received his DVM and BS from K-State in 1979. He worked in a
mixed practice from 1979 to 1981. He completed a two year food animal
residency at University of California at Davis in 1982 and received his
PhD from UC Davis in 1985. He currently is a professor of population
health and reproduction at UC Davis. His research interests include:
On-farm food safety: how to manage the production unit on a daily basis
for: animal health and well-being, public health, environmental health
and its financial well-being; pulsed laser and microwave technologies
for inactivating microbes; food animal vaccines; infectious diseases;
mammary gland defenses; and neonatal immunology.
Sarah L. Fogleman MS
Ms. Fogleman is the Extension Agricultural Economist for the Southeast
Area of Kansas. She joined the K-State faculty in April of 1999 after
receiving her Master's Degree from Cornell University in Agricultural
Resource and Applied Economics. While at Cornell, Sarah did extension
research with the Northeast Dairy Producer's Association (NEDPA). Sarah
is the coordinator of the Employee Management for Production Agriculture
Conference and is a sought-after speaker as one of the nation's leading
experts on human resource management for production agriculture.
Dirk A. Hanson DVM
Dr. Hanson received his DVM from K-State in 1978. He is currently the
Executive Director of the Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners.
Spencer A. Johnston VMD
Dr. Johnston graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986.
After completing an internship at the University of Georgia and a small
animal surgical residency at Michigan State University, he joined the
faculty at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine
at Virginia Tech in 1990. He is currently a professor there, with a
clinical specialty focus in orthopedic surgery. He is a diplomate of the
American College of Veterinary Surgeons. His research interests include
the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly with nonsteroidal anti
inflammatory drugs.
Andrew A. Kocan MSPH PhD
Dr. Kocan received his MSPH from the University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill in 1969. He received his PhD from the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1973. He is currently a faculty member at
Oklahoma State University. His major interests are parasitic and
infectious diseases of wild and domestic animals.
Charlotte A. Lacroix DVM JD
Dr. Lacroix received her DVM in 1988 from the University of California
at Davis. After completing a large animal internship at the University
of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, she worked as an associate in a six-doctor
equine medical and surgical practice located in an equine dense area of
northern New Jersey. Dr. Lacroix attended the University of Pennsylvania
Law School and received her Juris Doctor in 1997. Dr. Lacroix is
licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and assists
practice owners and veterinary associates with legal issues concerning
veterinary medicine. Specifically, Dr. Lacroix’s legal and consulting
interests include: assisting practice owners select and form business
entities, negotiating and facilitating the sale and purchase of
veterinary practices, preparing buy-sell documents, employment
agreements, commercial leases, and advising on employment, regulatory,
animal law, and equine business law issues. She lectures on all these
topics nationwide, and has co-authored several articles on legal issues
of concern to veterinarians. Dr. Lacroix has also contributed to the
drafting of Legal Consent Forms for Veterinary Practices, published by
Priority Press Publications.
Robert H. Poppenga DVM PhD
Dr. Poppenga received his DVM from the University of Illinois in 1978.
He worked in a small animal practice from 1978 until 1983. His received
his PhD from the University of Illinois in 1987. He became a diplomate
of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in 1987. Dr. Poppenga is
currently a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania. His
research interests include wildlife toxicology, clinical toxicology, and
toxicology of herbs.
Patricia A. Talcott DVM PhD
Dr. Talcott received her DVM from Washington State University in 1988.
She received her PhD from the University of Idaho in 1989. Dr. Talcott
became a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in
1994. She is currently a faculty member at the University of Idaho.
CO2 Laser Lab
– Laura Miller and Tim Holt DVM
Dr. Holt has been in private practice for 20 years and has used the
laser in small animals since 1996. He has had extensive experience using
the laser and speaks for AccuVet/Lumenis nationally. Dr. Holt and Ms.
Miller will be demonstrating the laser on tissue samples as well as
inanimate items in the CO2 Laser Wet Lab.
